BDPS has spent much of first 2 years establishing who we are, and what we want to accomplish in our community with our 501 c 3 status.  We are growing our local community by hosting events and promoting all of the physical, mental and social benefits that we as dancers know exist.  We are introducing ballroom dancing to beginners and to those who just may want to watch and enjoy the music and socializing.   And we are striving to build a dance community.

We celebrate our 2nd birthday with 134 members which include 8 instructors. Our local members reside as far south as Georgetown, SC and as far north as Wilmington, NC. We also have members that live in OH, PA, WV, and NY. Even though are not local they support us so they have quality events to attend when they are in town.

Our instructors have really stepped up to help us. Sal is teaching free weekly lessons 9 months of the year at the Brunswick Senior Resource Center on our behalf. Ron and Beth have implanted our South Strand Outreach Program with dancing at Assisted Living Centers. Sandra, Paul, Dawn, Clara, Rainee & Ro, & Crystal have all donated time on a Saturday morning for lessons at the 810 Lanes. Ralph has taught pre-dance lessons and DJ’d for us and Jim Sterner has been a dance host, has offered his time to teach a series of lessons and has donated equipment to us to!

During our first 2 years BDPS has hosted over 60 events which consisted of Fundraisers with Alzheimer’s, formal affairs, dinner dancing at the Vine Bistro , breakfast dances at 810 Lanes, Gatsby dances, a Lua, Masque ball, Starduster Big Band dance events, a Holiday Bash, afternoon Tea Dances, dancing at Inlet Square Mall and now our new First Thursday Dances at St. John’s Hall.

We have spent a lot of time and money during our first 2 years. Finding different locations, developing a website and our weekly newsletter, purchasing equipment, decorations, printing, rack cards, obtaining and maintaining insurance policies and building a reputation in the community by being a part of the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce, and networking with those businesses in the community.

We have a great Board of Directors that works hard and together we have created sustainability and the Ballroom Dance Preservation Society will be part of the Myrtle Beach Community for a very long time!

We could not have done this without the support of our members and our dance community friends. We thank you and hope you will continue to support our events, share our flyers with your friends, and like and share our facebook pages. Our membership dues remain local so the more members we have, the more we will be able to give back to our local community dance community.
